EL PASO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Demolition of “WELCOME TO EL PASO” metal chase that ran approx. 80 ft across and 5 ft tall. This chase ran across the TSA checkpoint area, right above the Xray screening machines.
Had to involve engineers, demolition crew/ crane experts, and safety officers, to knock down the chase.
It took us approx. 3 weeks to remove this chase sectional. The whole weight was about 8 tons. We cut 5′ increments, braced cut areas, and secured areas for people to still walk underneath. We had to maintain it upright so TSA can continue their screening process and the airport flight scheduled not to be stopped. A very critical, well-scheduled project.
As well as replacing 4- 20 to 30-ton package units on the roof right next to the airplane bays. We had to set crane early in the morning right after the airplane left at 6:30. We had 2-hour windows to set the crane, remove the unit from the roof, install a new unit, get it running. We did this 4 times. 2 units per day.
We never once interrupted any flight schedules, violated any airport policies and rules, and had zero incidents.
We were given lots of “atta boys” from the Airport Director.
This project included:
Demo Chase
4-20 to 30-ton package units
4 Split systems. (Communications and IT rooms).
Demo a huge AHU that was in the basement. Had to cut it in pieces to pull it out. Jacketing of existing 10, 12, 8,6, and 4 inches chilled water piping. We covered approximately 250 ft.
We started the project in May and we completed it on July 3rd, 2019.
Our target completion date was August 31, 2019. Finished a month early.
